You know it. I know it. So let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Yes, Donald Trump definitely has some form of dementia. And look, I’m not making fun of this. I’ve lost several of my own family members to various forms of dementia, don’t wish it on anyone. My beef is instead with the fact that he and his MAGA cult have been, for years now, accusing Joe Biden of having severe dementia — an accusation which serves as their number one reason for why President Biden shouldn’t be allowed to run for a second term.

The conservative right communicates that message in a variety of ways. Donald himself uses email scams, alt-right social media, and his rallies to amplify the sentiment. He enjoys giving embellished versions of Biden’s foibles or calling him names like “sleepy Joe” or “slow Joe.” In 2020 during a reelection bid speech at his Bedminster golf club, Trump even gathered three hundred police officers to poll them on whether he should stick with using “sleepy Joe” or change the nickname to “slow Joe.”

This is simply not normal.

Until more recently Trump kept it sort of vague, merely hinting at something like cognitive decline. But now he’s specifically naming dementia, as he did following President Biden’s recent democracy speech in Pennsylvania. Later that night on Truth Social, Trump retorted:

“He must be insane, or suffering from late stage dementia!”

And with that, the rest of the peanut gallery falls in line including family, friends, and Fox News. Don Jr. favors sharing deceptively doctored videos of Biden speeches which immediately go viral on alt-right social media (of course, before any fact-checks are done). But he also communicates “dementia” in long-winded Rumble rants. That’s the stage where Don Jr. repeatedly refers to Biden’s brain as “mush.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly referred to Biden as “a mentally incompetent, feckless, dementia-ridden piece of crap,” and “President Butterbeans” who is “frail, weak, and dementia ridden.
