…ng those that were gender non-conforming, I knew I fell into their stories as soon as I heard them. Those in-between, those that can’t find meaning in either man or woman, or can in both, or can in a strange mishmash that society hasn’t been able to admit yet.
THIS. So much this. Especially the part about how “society hasn’t been able to admit yet” that gender is not always binary. Society often struggles to comprehend trans people who conform to the binary in general — forget anything that goes beyond the binary. As the mom of a trans non-binary teen (who, whenever asked “do you feel more like a boy or a girl?” has always answered, “I feel more like just a person”), I cannot express how much I feel you this piece. And also, I’m hoping desperately that more people will start to get it, as more and more people like yourself speak your truths. Thank you so much for your voice, Lor McLain-Smith. ❤
