I Refuse To Condemn Nancy Pelosi For Ripping Up Trump’s Speech

In fact, as a patriotic American, defending her right now is my civic duty

— I won’t do it. Absolutely not. I refuse to condemn House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her actions after Trump delivered the State of the Union Speech. Across social media last night and today, folks (from all different political persuasions) have been slamming Speaker Pelosi for shredding Trump’s State of the Union speech on live national TV — a speech that, all on its own, shredded the truth entirely.

And if you’re someone who has taken part in the public shaming of this woman, for having one moment of vulnerability… for showing a completely normal, natural response to the ridiculous amount of verbal abuse, manipulation, projection, and gaslighting that the 45th administration has heaped upon us over the last 3.5 years… then I assert without hesitation: shame on you.

Shame on you for seeming to shout with bravado while condemning her actions as “childish antics.” Shame on you for proclaiming she was “being divisive.” That what she did “was a disgrace.” That it was “disrespectful.” Or “classless.” Or “Uncalled for.” Or how the Democrats “are better than that.” And even, that some of you think Pelosi “should resign.”

Are you effing kidding me?!

No, seriously (and again for the people in the back):

Are you effing kidding me?!

If you really want to go after something “classless,” then go after the GOP’s Trumpian reality-show antics that took place during last night’s State of the Union address — an event that felt more like a Trump campaign rally meeting a live taping of Oprah (“YOU get a car!! And YOU get a car!!”)

See, here’s the thing: people can only be pushed so far before they break.

Yes, Pelosi has a noble history of always keeping her cool, even in the worst of situations. And yes, she’s always maintained a level of professionalism. But she — like much of the country — has reached a breaking point. And we’re done with playing nice.

When has Trump ever played nice? Never. And that’s why many of you voted for him. If you can dish it out but can’t take it in, then step aside. If you’re that much of a hypocrite, if you can’t take the heat, then get the hell out of the kitchen, because right now? We’re just warming up.

Last night you witnessed a very strong, very smart, very poised woman’s breaking point. For being sick and damn tired of old, white, cishet men in power, who are deathly afraid of losing that power that they’d commit crimes in plain sight. For being sick and damn tired of a commander-in-chief who has been shredding our democratic norms and principles, including even fact-based truths and reality, for well over three years now. For destroying all the things we’re supposed to stand for (or at least appreciate) if we consider ourselves “proud Americans.”

Trump destroys all those things on a daily basis, not to mention, the ever-present smoke and mirrors show — i.e., the cloud of chaos and corruption — that follows him everywhere, just as the cloud of festering dirt and bugs follows Pig-Pen from the “Peanuts” cartoon.

I applaud Nancy Pelosi and will continue applauding her til the cows come home. This tiny giant of a woman has more bravery in her pinky finger than all the white men that make up the entire GOP combined; she’s the only person to ever publicly stand up to the nation’s bully-in-chief — instead (and often), granting him way more forgiveness and allowance than we believe necessary.

And here’s the other thing: If you didn’t condemn Trump for the first jab last night — for refusing shake Pelosi’s outstretched hand in a show of good faith, as is respectful tradition, then you damn sure don’t get to castigate Pelosi for ripping up his speech at the end.

Shame on you and your selective outrage.

Shame on you for condemning the one moment Pelosi allowed the world to see behind the curtain, to see a modicum of her humanity. Shame on you for calling her much-needed action a “tantrum,” when the President of the United States has actual tantrums at least once a day on Twitter (and elsewhere) for the entire world to witness.

Where is your moral outrage over any of the horrible things he has done?

Where was your pearl-clutching when he said:

“I did try and fuck her. She was married… and I moved on her very heavily. I moved on her like a bitch. But I couldn’t get there.”

Or when he said:

“I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”

Where was your moral outrage on social media back then?

Oh, that’s right. You were busy laughing that part up. Saying it was just “locker room banter” and how “all men talk like that.” (By the way, you’re keeping company with the wrong men if you honestly believe that.)

Where was your selective moral outrage when he commented (publicly) about women’s appearance or intelligence? Calling them names like “horseface,” “loser,” “a low-IQ person,” “pigs,” “slobs,” and so on?

Where was your selective moral outrage when he made wholly inappropriate remarks about underage girls? Like when he admitted to leering at beauty pageant contestants, naked in their dressing room, simply because he “owned” the pageant? Or when he went on talk radio shows to say things like, “you should always go for the young, troubled girls. They have daddy issues.” Where was your outrage then? Or how about when he said Paris Hilton was “hot” and “sexually attractive” — when she was only 12? Or even the disturbing comments he’s made about his own daughter Ivanka?

Where’s your selective outrage when, while serving as President of the United States, Donald Trump publicly continued making disparaging remarks about patriotic Americans even after they’d died? Or when he sided with hostile foreign leaders? Or used anti-Semitic tropes to attack his perceived enemies? Or when he needlessly shut down the government and later used his “emergency authority” to circumvent Congress on his mid-life crisis border wall? Or when he committed a crime by asking the President of Ukraine to investigate Hunter Biden, in exchange for their already promised military aid?

The list of his corrupt, evil-doings goes on, and on, and on, and on.

But you want to rip into Nancy Pelosi for the one time she had a perfectly normal reaction to a gaslighting, fearmongering, lying, abusive, corrupt, wannabe tyrant??

Please.

No. I won’t join you in condemning Pelosi. At this moment in time, I won’t even practice Michelle Obama’s sage advice of, “when they go low, we go high.” Not anymore.

I won’t be condemning the only person to ever publicly stand up to this disgusting, greedy, narcissistic man-baby who was installed as President against the majority of the people’s will.

I won’t condemn anyone who speaks truth to power and calls out his bullshit. I won’t condemn the brave soul that is Nancy Pelosi. And if you claim to be a “proud American,” you shouldn’t either.
