Hi Alba, thanks so much for reading and responding! I feel you. I have a few friends in other countries, and although the U.S.’s reputation has never been “the envy of the world” as many Americans like to naively presume, trump has only worsened and caused far more damage to our reputation all over the world. You’re right; it really is a shame.
Some folks in other countries recognize the majority of us didn’t want him, but all in all, as you said, we are mostly seen as being aligned with him, by default. Kinda like how the entire Republican party has, by default (and by silence/complicity), become synonymous with the party of trumpism.
What’s really sad to me is that many people simply held their noses and voted for him — they didn’t like him, but they hated Hillary Clinton that much more. Which I really don’t understand. She was perhaps the most qualified candidate ever to run for the office of POTUS. And what makes it even more pathetic is that those people who voted for trump only because they hated Hillary that much more, have really, really weak responses as to why they don’t like her in the first place.
Everything she was accused of (by donald and his ilk) led to ZERO indictments and ZERO convictions. And she’s been put through the ringer. Yet you don’t see her on Twitter having temper tantrums and trying to insult colleagues with juvenile put-downs.
From her husband’s presidency, the Whitewater investigation lasted for 6 long years. Benghazi investigation went on for 4 years, Hillary’s “email” investigation, 2 years. She willingly testified for 11 hours. In all, there were no indictments, and no convictions.
Yet for trump & co., during the course of Mueller’s investigation — heck, after just ONE year of Mueller’s investigation — there were 19 indictments, 5 guilty pleas, and 4 convictions.
And, unlike Hillary Clinton, as of today, trump has still failed to testify — willingly or otherwise.
Every single trump campaign manager has pleaded guilty or has been charged with a felony. As for trump entities under investigation for criminal wrongdoing? 1. trump organization, 2. trump foundation, 3. trump campaign, 4. trump inaugural committee, 5. trump transition team, 6. trump administration, and so on…
There are, of course, those who say this was “all part of the plan.” That the orange dotard is doing exactly what he came to do — expose all the corruption in D.C.
To that, I call bullsh*t.
The only corruption he has exposed is from beyond the confines of D.C., among his own people who he’s surrounded himself with forever. Yet the folks involved in D.C. politics who actually are corrupt — legitimately and fully corrupt, and who need to be expunged (like the egregiously awful Mitch McConnell) have only been hoisted up higher, and given more power.
I voted for Obama twice, and God do I miss him. I’m not trying to say he was perfect and flawless, but he’s nothing of what the trump enablers accuse him. I believe he was a man who went into politics for all the right reasons. Sadly, Mitch McConnell and the supermajority of Republicans we had during Obama’s tenure (because of gerrymandering — a whole separate issue) obstructed everything good Obama ever tried to accomplish.
I too just wish we could wake up from this nightmare.
